"I Said Surely Yes"

It always amazes me just what a 2 1/2 year old comes out with - not suprises- me I quickly add !! Nothing can do that with Alfie! After a very brief run through what he did with his day at nursery . . . . played on the tractor . . . .we had a chat about doggies (the conversation of a future leader?) after seeing 2 spaniels causing havoc on the back road home from nursery it began with "what they doing mummy?" "Running home for their tea" -" what do you think they're having?" I prompted. "Cheerio's" That tickled me. "Surely not Alfs, it's tea time isn't it?" A confident and speedy response; "I said Surely yes." Much giggling. We discussed our doggy other doggies, colours, size, number and where the mummy one had gone in total probably a good five minutes until we'd satisfied his hungry little brain. This got me to thinking about how free a childs mind is to explore conversations about everything and anything they see - without limit! This has got to be a stress buster! It's a clutter free mind that can ask questions from dogs to owl babies to cheerio's in one very short car journey. After a busy afternoon; riding toy tractors and parking the bike, we had qt family time reading and dancing to dire straits (It's a must!!). After our nightly bathtime routine we tucked them both up and I grabbed 5 minutes before tea to put some washing on - the domestic housewife attempt. It's usually at these times everything ploughs through my head and I got the 'I'm so proud' hat on as I thought of how Alfie mulled over the importance of doggies, cheerio's, and owl babies but also at the speed at eloquence of how he responds to a question with such confidence using a new word (within a sentence) "I said surely yes" will probably stick with me forever just as one of those things. . . . . .the phrases that melt you when they'd mean absolutely nothing to anybody else. That's what makes being a parent so incredible. That feeling right there. Am I proud mummy? I say surely yes!
